Working at a water park the days get very long and the staffing gets very thin as the summer goes on. The main question that many guest ask when we voice that we have not moved to a different spot all day, is “well then how do you guys go to the bathroom?” This is an odd question for anyone to be asked, and most of us do not respond. If we do respond we simply just say that someone will get us eventually. This is very far from the truth though. Some of us actually do go to the bathroom, but still many of us do not. Especially on days when we barely get to move a different spot.
Something as simple as going to the bathroom sometimes takes to much time if we want a break that day. We have to get creative with where we go because we want a break more than a few minutes in the restroom. There are four main places we would all hop in long enough to use the bathroom before getting back in position. These four spots are the wave pool, the back of the kid structure, the catch pool of the toilet bowl, and the bottom of the connected slides. Luckily all of these spots have cool water, except for the wave pool because the guest use the bathroom there way more than the lifeguards. We all lost a little dignity each time we had to use the bathroom in these places because one of our friends was always on stand, and we all deep down knew, we were not just cooling off. So before asking a lifeguard where do you go, it might be better to not just ask or your experience will be damaged.
